My mom and I headed to St. Augustine, FL, earlier this month. I needed to take care of some business there and she had never been to the area. One morning, we both woke early and she suggested we head out to see the sunrise. Since we've lived on the west coast all our lives, we're accustomed to the sun setting on the ocean. That isn't possible on the Atlantic. So we did the next best thing, and watched the sun as it ascended into the sky among the clouds. It was so picturesque! I'm amazed that I took this photograph, because it seems like something that you'd find on a postcard. It was beautiful and a wonderful moment to share with my mother.
In between, we squeezed in a trip to Baton Rouge, LA, to see my son at college. My husband flew in for the long Family/Parent weekend events, which included sitting in the uppermost deck of the packed homecoming game. No wonder they call the stadium Death Valley!! We stayed at a historic bed and breakfast and made a fast jaunt to the French Quarter of New Orleans, so my mom could sample a famous beignet at Cafe Du Monde and see the historic sites including the Garden District, Jackson Square (pictured below), the mighty Mississippi River and of course, Bourbon Street. We created some lasting family memories, and remembered times shared with our daughter.
The week of Thanksgiving brought our travels to a scrumptous end and now it's time to bring on Christmas and ring in another new year.
